Nicholas Kashian
Recent paintings and collages from Nick's Berlin, Germany studio.
Nicholas Kashian was born and raised in Bloomington/Normal. After graduating with an MFA from University of Illinois, Chicago in 2009, he moved to Berlin, Germany, where he is currently a metal fabricator, artist and father of two.
These images reflect the artist's continued explorations into what he describes as 'two and a half D', a place between the picture plane (illusion) and physical space (tactile or actual space). This focuses on collage aesthetic and assemblage techniques, but is likewise rooted in the painting tradition. Kashian's work also is heavily influenced by vernacular aesthetics of graffiti and building sites and uses found materials almost exclusively. This is the first time the works have been shown in printed form.
